British Columbia is a mountainous province with many amazing ski resorts that foster the skiers that Canada is so well known for at World Cup and Olympic events. It all starts when kids learn to slide on snow and have the opportunity to participate in clubs like ours, which teach them the skills to reach their goals and explore their passion.

 

LIGHTNING CREEK SKI CLUB

 

Based at Troll Resort near Quesnel, B.C., the Lightning Creek Ski Club offers instruction to skiers age 5 to 16. Our club has experienced coaches that develop skiers from their early years right to the time they move to Nationals and the height of their professional skiing careers.

   

PROGRAMS

The club depends on generous volunteers and sponsors to help put on great programs for kids. Our club believes in keeping the costs of our programs as attainable as possible so that as many kids as possible can participate and learn the great sport of skiing. By sponsoring our club you are creating opportunities for kids to get the best coaching and ski programs that we can attract to the Interior of British Columbia. Our club is often on the podium at The Nancy Greene and BC Alpine festivals each year.

FAMILIES

 

Our club consists of families from Quesnel and Williams Lake. Club culture requires all families to put in several days volunteering at our races, in our club cabin and assisting in other capacities where needed.

As the kids progress up through the age groups from U6 (5 years old) to U16  (15 years old), the demands on the athletes and their families becomes increasingly onerous. There are many out of- town races which require travel, accommodation, event and coaching fees. The kids often miss school and have to keep up with their curriculum on the road or during training.

LIGHTNING CREEK RACING

 

Since 2008, the club has worked with Troll Resort to provide excellent grooming and access to terrain for weekly instruction and hosted events. This partnership has been instrumental in building our club’s recognition and enrollment over the years, which in turn also benefits Troll Resort. Troll Resort and Lightning Creek Ski Club host many events in the North Zone which attract up to 300 plus athletes and their parents to Troll Resort. Lightning Creek athletes also travel to races all over BC. The Nancy Greene athletes (U6 to U12) usually travel to two out of town races per season, and the BC Alpine athletes travel regularly and participate in out-of- town training and races. Our four sponsorship levels give sponsors the opportunity to support the Lightning Creek Ski Club based on their needs – Platinum, Gold, Silver and Bronze.
